Short Summary of My Trip to Asia
Sitting inside the Hong Kong airport headed for home, and I was wanting to share what God has done during the trip to Asia. The youth camp of the ministry called Project Acts, led by Filipino pastors and leaders, has come to an end for 2010. I had the privilege of being the guest speaker this year, and the leaders graciously used the name Encounter Generation as their theme, which is the name of the ministry I serve. What a great time of fun with friends, as the young people were divided into teams and competed with one another in an obstacle course, a talent show and a bonfire where they displayed their team cheer.
I had the chance to share the story of Josiah, the foundational story for the Encounter Generation ministry. We were reminded through his story of what the Bible says, “Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the LORD as he did—with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.” We were challenged to be like Josiah and Gideon in our generation and to begin asking, “God, I’m always sharing with You about what concerns me. And You always care deeply for those things. But Lord, I want to ask, ‘What is it that concerns You?’”
The Lord was very faithful to meet us there and to spiritually and missionally awaken us to His love and to our purpose in His harvest field. At least ten young people gave their life to Jesus as Savior and Lord. Many came forward to deal with sins and hindrances in their relationship with God through prayer and turning away from that sin. And many also came forward for prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to empower them to be a worker in God’s harvest.
Probably 7 years ago, I was speaking to a group of people in Thailand and felt God impress me very strongly that I was to ask for an altar call for those who felt called into some form of full-time Christian ministry. Nearly 30 came forward that night, weeping and seeking God about their lives. I felt such a passion for that role of praying and preaching for ministers and workers in God’s field. So at youth camp in the Philippines, I gave that opportunity and at least 30 came forward there to say that they felt that call and wanted to submit that to the Lord. Their information was taken so that they will be followed up with for further training and mentoring and for humbly testing that call under the proper leadership.
Along with the youth camp, God has allowed me to give away many DVD copies of Encounter 2009 to people in Asia. The response from those who have watched so far has been very positive. I got to share with a youth group in Santa Rosa and preached in a local church at Valley Cathedral in Cavite. My friend Theiven and I have filmed several video blogs which I have been sharing and will continue to share in the coming weeks. And God has opened up so many doors for potential ministry in the future. I had several meetings in the Philippines and was able to meet a wonderful couple in Hong Kong working with a similar ministry as mine in its vision. We will see what doors God opens in the future. I am tired, but I feel more alive than I have in a long time. I am more full of vision and excitement about ministry, and God continues to remind me that everything I do should communicate His name and greatness to people everywhere because His character, His name and goodness are the hope of the whole world.
